FAQ

Formative Members
Formative members are the visionaries... the risk-takers... the creative-force behind the formation of a community. They are also the ones who must be the most willing to compromise. (Very rarely do communities develop as-planned.)

Formative members required are:

The Administrator: coordinates the development of the community - assuring that the necessary tasks are accomplished in a timely function.

The Financial Planner: coordinates the generation and distribution of funds and investments.

The Motivators: put into action the plans and directives of the community formation.

(These roles may be shared by one or more individuals.)

The Board: consists of all, or key formative members who will develop the vision, goal, direction, rules and regulations of the community. They will also become key-players in approving future members.

Watch your step!
Be careful when considering a commune lifestyle! With proper planning, awareness, patience and personality ~ a commune lifestyle may be a wonderful experience!
But, look before you leap!!!
  Maintenance Members

Maintenance members keep the ball rolling! These members contribute their individual skills and talents in order to further benefit the entire group.

Maintenance members have the ease of joining a commune which is aleady established, and that actually saves them a lot of work! But, that usually costs them initially. Many communes request a payment for membership at this point.

As most communities develop business ventures in order to generate capital, most maintenance members are the staff for these operations.

Additional Members
Additional members are accomodated as finances and space allow for. These additional members may either contribute to pre-existing goals, or may add a brand new dynamic to the group.

As members come and go, additional members may be required to maintain the function of the community.

Additional members, may also be selected for new tasks within the community; such as:

* Accountant/Bookkeeper
* Architect/Designer
* Carpenter
* Chauffer
* Chef/Cook
* Computer Technician
* Counsellor
* Designer
* Doctor
* Esthetician
* Gardener/Horticulturalist
* Hairstylist
* Handyman
* Lawyer
* Maid
* Masseuse
* Nurse
* Professional Shopper
* Seamstress
* Secretary
* Security
* Travel Agent
...anyway ~ I'm sure you get the idea. The possibilities are exciting!

Material Essentials
Established communes should generally have a residential site (additional pods may be added to avoid overpopulating the main house) which offers members both accomodation and board.
A business location is necessary for generating income, especially for urban communities. Some rural communities live-off the land, and require little outside income to maintain themselves. An example of an urban business may be anything from a store, restaurant, gallery, spa...
Should the communities business become increasingly successful, additional ammenities for the commune may result in very luxurious accomodation for all involved (however, this is rare.)

Too many cooks can spoil the soup!

Finding the "right" mix of people is essential. Not only is it desirable for individuals to get-along, but also to compliment one another according to their strengths and abilities.

Don't get stuck in a time-warp!
As your community develops, members will come and go. It is essential to the thriving force of the commune that new members be integrated into the group.
